Before starting the course of Fundamentals of Business, I would be extremely grateful if you could indicate what  is, according to you, the objective (the aim) of companies like Microsoft, Apple, MacDonalds

  1. Please, in your comment do not take into consideration the lesson of this morning.
Moreover, in your opinion, is profit a dirty word? Why?

    2. I don't think that the word 'profit' should be considered as a dirty word. It is not the profit. It is the person behind it. I mean, every enterpreneur begins running business and tries to get to his/her goals with the same aims of the other business-minded: getting profit. It is up to the person, in our case to the enterpreneur, if he/she will be working wisely and honestly without damaging environment (like natural resources) and without taking advantage of other weak people.
Running business is not just about getting profit. It also means to contribute to the society (help to make things get better), give people jobs and help them to move from the 'poverty' and get a better life.

    3. My think is close than that of Rafaela : I think that "profit" is not a dirty word itself, but it is often the cause of a dirty world. There are a lot of examples of "good" profit, or a gane made by entities in an honest way, but there are also a lot of examples of toubles or economic disaters made by people that search profit by any means.

    4. I believe that the word profit itself it's not 'dirty' in fact even if it's not a primary need it contributes to live a life with no financial problems. Concerning the entrepreneurs and the industries this word sometimes can assume a 'dirty' meaning because the blind and absurd wants of profit by some entrepreneurs can cause in many cases an exploitation of people and territories.
Finally we can see how even the entrepreneurs at the end (that let you think that their products is a need for you)
Transform a want( profit) in a need.

  2. In my opinion , companies like Aple & Microsoft got as aim to create new revoltionary devices , with a frendly operating system that can be used by anyone , but also to keep up with technology .

  3. "Profit"... I think there is no other word as selfish as this one. The meaning of this word, at least in my opinion, eventually worsened through the decades (say, from the XVII to the XIX century) also as a result of the unawareness of the unbearable conditions that labourers were forced to endure.

  4. In my opinion it is really important to distinguish the profit that follows the entrepreneur after pay employees which is rightful gain from the profit at all costs achieved without pay employees with the sole purpose of obtaining money.
the entrepreneur who gets to profit, having the right behaviors is legitimized, otherwise, the profit as an end in itself, made fraudulently is absolutely negative.

  5. I don't think that you can consider profit a dirty word. Profits are just a way to evaluate the goodness of such business, which keep up with ethical and juridical laws. Therefore if the business is an entity born to create value, profit is the mean to understand if it is creating value or not. Likely it is true just for profit businesses and logically not for non-profit ones

  6. I think that profit sometimes stimulates to do better but the most important thing is avoid to exploit the employees to have a profit because it is cruel and can be controproductive. It is also significant the balance between the profit and the wage of employees, if the employer earn a lot of money, his workers will be paid well.

  7. I don't think profit can be a bad word but rather it is an essential part of the business, without it it would be impossible to market and to expand the business or product in order to satisfy a need of the customer. The business can't sustain itself without profit

  8. In my opinion, the aim of Microsoft, Apple and McDonald's is the same even if they operate in different fields of the business: to reach the major number of customers possible, mainly young people (eg. for what concerns the first two, they are leading in the creation of new forms of communication, online platforms, etc).

Moreover, according to me, "profit" is not a dirty word, at all. Is just one aspect of starting and running a business. It becomes bad just when it is the only aim of one's actions and strategies.

  9. In my opinion, the objective of companies like Microsoft, Apple, MacDonalds ecc. is to interpret the main human's wants and needs by identifying themselves with the customers' mind.
As a consequence, this kind of companies can give birth to different strategies which lead themselves to create revolutionary inventions : new technologies in the case of Microsoft and Apple and a new way to produce addictive food in the case of MacDonalds.

Concerning the word "profit", I would't define it as "dirty". I think that the profit is the concrete and material translation of the busyness' value. Therefore, I'd use this connotation if the profit becomes the main objective of a company or an entrepreneur.

  10. As to the objective of big companies I would say that their main purpose is to do everything possible so that their products become "needs" of the customers, not only "wants". This "strategy" consists in manipulating the concept of "need" itself so that a person need something because the majority of the surrounding people has it.

  11. I think the aim of companies like Microsoft, Apple and MacDonald is make profit by convincing people that companies are satisfying their needs.
Profit is a dirty world if instead of being considered as a reward it is considered as an objective.

  13. According to me, the main aim these companies have can be resumed by Steve Job’s motto: “Stay hungry, stay foolish”. In my opion, these companies never give up improving the condition of their costumer and satisfing his needs. So, for example, Apple (like Microsoft) keeps on inventing always-more technological systems. Profit is just a result of this process and it is a proof that the company is doing a great job. In this way, I can’t consider this word in a negative meaning.

  14. I think that the objective of big companies such as Google or Apple, first of all, is to guess and satisfy the needs of possible customers, because only in this way, they could make profit. I consider this word "dirty", only if it is linked to corrupted and dishonest people, who think to increase their salaries.

  15. I believe Microsoft,Apple and MacDonalds are for profit organisations hence their main objectives in my opinion are selling products and providing services to customers so as to increase their turn over, also to provide quality goods so they can have a competitive advantage over other companies.

  16. I think that the aim of a company, like that suggested, should be to satisfy needs( that is better call wants) of costumers as good as possible, et at the same time have a profit that should take the company safe from any financial or economic trouble ( because a great company means a lot of workers, whom need safety). So, in my opinion, the objective of a great company is to make good products for costumers and to be sustainable; that are,at least, the main elements to make a profit.

  17. Well , profit is not dirty word its a natural thing when it comes to business. It is all based on the profit among with other things, if a company has a high profit employments have a high income too,so if you work in a successful company you get high paychecks , you produce more in your job so the profits stay high(both success for you and your company you are working in), it makes an environment more desirable for work, and you have a better way of living when it comes to money ...So if you run a business you try to maximize the profit with a healthy way so you keep your company running which is basically the most important... Even non-profit organisations, like hospitals have doctors, nurses and stuff and those people they are not working for nothing, they are paid from the government to keep them doing their job

  18. I firmly believe that the objective of all the people running on a business is to make money and therefore profit. Obviously to define if is, or not, a dirty world we should analyze several factors; the first one is how people that run business let grow up the requests for a specific product, that can be useful or just planned without caring about the rispect of the others (ex. making addiction, destroy the environment or simply improving the product and keep delivering better perfomances ).
The second point is understand if you can make money pushing people to desire that determinated thing and how many earnings you could make on it, trasforming something that people wish to have in something that they must have, but not just because all the people around have that determinated product but maybe because you can give them faster or so easily that they will choose you and your particular service.
But if people choose your production because is easier it doesn't mean that they will have better performances with it or a better value for money; and then to conclude I will define the profit word as, not at the 100 %, but mostly a dirty word.

  19. During my short life, I was constantly told that the only objective of the entrepreneur is to make money with minimum labor: it was a kind of command that leads surely to success. Actually, in my opinion, those firms above mentioned follow this statement. Although these companies have brought new technologies (e.g. Microsoft and Apple) and delicious food in the case of McDonalds (I love it, I have to admit it!), at the same time they create an addiction for people. So at the end they are not improving the human genre.
For what concern the word 'profit', I think it has not be a dirty word, because we have to remind that without investing and spending money there is no economy. It only depends on how this word really means for us.

  20. In my oponion profit is not a dirty word , profit is the motivation that moves people to become better version of themselves , noone does good things without waiting for a return. So to the point, a firm's goal has nothing to do with people, every firm decides what its goal will be, other seak profit and economic settlement (eg. multinational companies profit-centered businesses (apple, nokia nike , adidas.etc.), others have more pure and good reasons of excistance like unisef, doctors without boarders etc. Concluding a firm's objective is determined by its leader and later by the line of costumers and what they demand beacause as we know demand of costumers determine the movement of the market

  21. Probably the first aim of multinational company like Apple, Microsoft and MacDonalds is to turn our wants in needs. Binding their own Logo with the general idea of something cool and smart.

  22. In my opinion, the objectives of these kinds of companies are different : for example, in the case of Microsoft is to provide an efficicient product to make people's life easier. On the other hand, focusing on the Coca-cola company we can imagine as one of their aim providing a cool and fresh drink. Sed the final aim can be profit too, but it has not to be considered as a dirty or evil word , because it can be one of the tools to improve production or employees' working conditions.

  23. I think that the aim of companies like Microsoft, Apple and MacDonalds is: impress, strike and satisfy the needs of the people with innovative things. So the customers can increase their interest in buying something and make profit.
"Profit" is not a dirty word because is something of positive, usefull and represents the objective of the companies.

  24. Profit is not a dirty word, in fact it is the physiological consequence of a business activity. It is fundamental for the growht of an activity, but at the same time it cannot be the only target for the business entity. So to summarize, profit is a basical aspect of business, so it cannot be a dirty word, but it is important to specify that it is not the only one.

  25. I think these companies aim is to satisfy peolpe wants, they give to the people what people needs basing their commerce on the quality of their products and for avoid the economic failure , every year they create new products ( iphone 4 , iphone 5, iphone 6 ...), knowing that people will continue to buy it , trusting on these companies quality.
In my opinion "profit" isn' t a dirty word, our world lives thanks to the economy , a continuos flow of money , so profit is necessary.

  26. The main of the firm is to offer the highest quality with a best price to the customers in order to gain profit. So according to me the profit is not a dirty word. A firm cannot survive without profit.

  27. I think that the main objective of microsoft, apple and mcdonalds is to survive for a long time like "AZIENDA" , offering always new products and services with high quality whom are required by customers.

  28. I think between Microsoft and Apple there is a sort of competition in order to create what can make the human daily life as easy as possible. The aim of these two companies, in my opinion, is to invent what can be considered in this moment modern, useful and technological. Mcdonalds’s company wants to spread as much as possible its food making it affordable by everyone.
These companies try to study and analyse deeply the human mind, looking for people needs, but most of all, people wants, and using particular advertisement able to persuade everyone about the quality of the products.
In my opinion the word “profit” does not belong to a bad field, but we have to specify what we mean with this term. I suppose “Profit” is a good thing, that can help people to achive what they dream and what they need. To have a Profit and so gain something means, first of all, reach the objective that the profit-person has. Profit is produced by a selling of service of good, and so it concerns somenthing of useful, for the others.

  29. The main objective of Microsoft, Apple and Macdonalds is to make a profit. If MacDonalds wouldn't have been a in this list I would also say to invent product to fullfill the customers needs before they know they have specific need.

In my opinion it depends if the word "profit" is dirty. It depends on how companies gain their profit. If a company produces in a low-wages country with bad working conditions for the employees, I would say that profit is a dirty word. Thoses companies only care about themselves and their profit. I understand that companies go there because their competitors go there as well and they can't compete with them if they have higher labour costs. Otherwise there is nothing dirty about profit. Companies need profit to excist and to invest in new products.

  30. The objectives of these companies are to provide an interesting, viable and user-friendly product to the public which results in economic profit to the individual company and which also allows the individual to interact with society. Profit is not a dirty word. Profit, if obtained legally, is an absolute, fundamental necessity for the well being of all companies.

  31. I think the primary objectives of these companies are to offer a quality service to their costumers and to be always in search of innovation. In order to achieve this objective, these companies produce innovative products that will satisfy customers needs.

  32. And about the question: '' Is profit a dirty word ?"
I think no,the profit isn't a dirty word. Because a company can't survive for a long time in the market without profit. For a company, to be established in the market, profit is very necessary.

  33. Before we spoke about the satisfaction of human needs, my first answer in the class was profit. I have to say I was mostly thinking of profit organizations and thought that profit is essential for its survival. I did´t see profit as a motivation in order to achieve a specific goal, but as an objective itself.
Profit is not a dirty word in my opinion. I do think that profit could be a tool to motivate workers in a company. It often proves that work has been done well and that there is a good chance for future development.
From the view of people not working in business companies, profit could sometimes be related to negative thoughts (pollution, ignore human rights, wars, etc.) . Although, many companies which made huge profits are now still here and are able to offer us high quality products which make our life more comfortable. Besides that, we often see a company which makes profit as a positive sign of employment.

The main purpose of the big companies is to satisfy the desires of customers. Each company has the aim to be competitive and updated in its field. Large companies such as Microsoft, Apple and McDonald try to create products that set the trends, products that create desire and an irresistible urge to buy it. The various companies are trying to meet all the demands of the customer so that the product is as attractive as possible.

My opinion is that the word profit is not a bad word. Profit is essentially the goal of every company. Obviously, the profit is a result of their work. Of course you do not get the profit minding their own interests but those of the client. Therefore, a company that creates products that meet the needs of customers will inevitably profit! Let's say that profit is an incentive for good work.

  35. In my opinion the objective of the companies as Microsoft, Apple and etc., is to satisfy customer needs and wants in profitable way. As profit based organization its main objective will be to adapt to changing environment and meet up customer expectations, therefore raise sales and earn more money.
As for the word "profit" itself, I think it can be dirty word considering the fact that in near history many companies had negative effects for the environment, customers, employees and etc., however I acknowledge that earning profit is main driving force for people to enter in the world of business.

  36. We can look at profit from 2 angles. The producers' point of view and the consumer's.
Companies of course will justify their huge abnormal profits with a sustainability program, social responsibility et al and of course customer satisfaction which these companies claim is their main objective. Maybe it was in the beginning but we all they are driven by profit maximization which we see from the customer's view.

    ReplyDelete
  37. The profit must be analyzed in several ways.
In general, we think that the profit is closely related to money, but this is not completely exact the money is what allows us to survive, because through it we can satisfy our primary and secondary needs.
In my opinion, the profit is not the purpose of the 'human activity, but this is the' object through which the man can be realized.
As he said Karl Marx in his manuscripts "Economic and Philosophical"
"The money, possessing the characteristic of buy all, to take control of all objects, then the object is in leading sense. Universality of this characteristic is the omnipotence of his being, for what is considered as omnipotent .. . the money acts as an intermediary between the need and the object, between life and livelihood of man. "
Profit is what allows a company to continue its business and then put in the goods market their product and using it to meet the needs of society.
If the profit is the fuel of a large machine that produces livelihoods, technology, scientific innovation, progress, then the profit is not useless but necessary.

  38. first i think profit is a good word.for instance, the employee will get the oil if we buy some meat form his shop.and then we know the seller must get the profit when we get something which we need.so i think it is a good word.
secondly, the aim of these companies is get profit.we want to enjoy the best service so we choose product from these companies.
therefore the objective of theirs is produce the best product and provide the best service for customers.
