A company which offer a service I often use is EasyJet which mission is: provide the customers with safe, good value, point-to-point air services.
WHAT: air service HOW: guaranteeing safety, low price and simplicity WHY: making travel easy and affordable for the costumer
I think that Easy jet starts like Apple from the WHY, not from the what. Many companies offered the same kind of product before they started (i.e. Ryanair). Although, in my opinion, they started from what they believe, from their values (simplicity, integrity, etc). They where able, I think, to establish a contact with the costumer who believed in those values too. Costumers rather buy something from a company they understand and share the values with, than from a company offering only a good price and where the values are not of primary importance. They sell a service which reflects the company philosophy ….like the video said: people do not buy what you do, but why you do it!

After that the demand for Champagne increased incredibly infact, less than ten years far from the first supply, the company was selling products in Spain, Germany, Eastern Europe and colonial British America with an unbelievable request specially from the highest and most prestigious positions in those country. In the following century the company started to be closely related with Napoleon Bonaparte and other sovereigns around all Europe that allowed them to sell more than twenty thousand bottles every year developing, at the same time, the concept of "Vintage Champagne". The business of the company grew constantly until 1971 when they joined with Hennessy (most famous USA Cognac producer) and after few years to Louis Vitton to make the most famous luxury alliance in the word that was making more than sixteen billion of euros just in 2004. They still have great customers such as Queen Elizabeth II. Now we can analyze the mission statement of the company : -WHAT: they produce Champagne that is the most famous and fancy sparkling wine around the world. -HOW : obviously they have a particular "HOW" because Champagne is a region in the North West of France where the environmental and weather conditions combine in a perfect way to make a unique product that no-one can copy with the same characteristics. They produce different products from Rosé Champagne to Dom Pérignon ( that is a special product made just with the grapes from the best year and is defined as a " Vintage"). -WHY: they always from the birth of the company have operated with finest product directed to the royal family, aristocrats and most important people around Europe and outside, combining the royalty demand with the intrinsic characteristic of the Champagne with the party-celebration side of the drink. This has been the most important factor that determinated their long-term profit because they are not making the best quality of Champagne but with the history and the huge customers demand they still earning lot of money selling an expensive product.

Now we can analyze the mission statement of the company :
-WHAT: they produce Champagne that is the most famous and fancy sparkling wine around the world.

How = Giving a great shopping experience to his customers in retail stores, online and through their mobile devices

I think that walmart's mission can meet in several points the ted's video. the first line of walmart's mission say so: "Walmart helps people around the world save money and live better -- anytime and anywhere -- in retail stores, online and through their mobile devices". And if you didn't know who is and what walmart does you could think that it could be a non-profit business. His mission want to grab the customer, giving right there a strong information to him. This first line wants to say: "I am here because i want to help you, you are not going to be scared. I am good and i will help you, saving money and giving you a better lifestyle".
